From intimate piano-bar moments to unforgettable live shows, Lucien brings energy, personality, and a distinctive French touch to every performance.

Bio

Born in Le Mans, in the Sarthe department of France, home of the legendary rillettes and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Lucien Donné grew up in the village of Càlig, Spain, where he is based, on the country’s northern Mediterranean coast.

Going to school there from a young age allowed him to experience cultural differences firsthand and understand them as a natural part of everyday life. Constant travel between Spain and France further shaped his open-mindedness, instilling in him a natural curiosity about people and cultures, as well as a deep love of travel, languages, and freedom.

Lucien grew up speaking French, Spanish, and Valencian (Catalan) as his native languages. Early contact with American friends and communities led him to speak American English from a very young age, giving him a natural affinity with the language and culture. Through his travels and international professional career, he later picked up basic words and expressions in German (including Bavarian) and Russian through everyday interactions with people and clients.

Throughout his personal, educational, and professional journey, he encountered discrimination and was discouraged from exploring the music he loves and becoming an artist. It's part of his story, but it doesn't tarnish it. He chose to turn it into something positive because it strengthened his determination to remain authentic, pursue his own path, embrace his natural desire for freedom and independence, and use artistic expression to connect people and cultures.

Music has given him a language that goes beyond nationalities, backgrounds, and borders.

He owes his current success to his own determination, as well as the unconditional support of his father and mother. They believed in him from the beginning, encouraged him to pursue his music, and made countless sacrifices to give him the opportunities he needed to develop as an artist. They supported his education, paid for his studies and musical training, invested in his instruments and equipment, and were always there for him when he needed them. Everything he had access to as a young musician was made possible through their financial and personal support. He will always be deeply grateful to them.

His artistic journey began very early. At age 2, he already had his hands on a toy keyboard. As a child, he listened to his father play accordion and keyboard and sing, accompanying him when he performed live. He would also try to improvise alongside him and his musician friends, learning instinctively how to listen, respond, and find his place within the music. His mother is a visual artist, which gave him early exposure to another form of artistic expression and helped him develop a broader understanding of the arts from the beginning.

He began studying piano at age 8 at the Benicarló Conservatory, where he continued his studies until the age of 16, consistently achieving outstanding results and demonstrating a natural aptitude for the instrument. Initially, piano lessons were simply an opportunity to explore music further, as his parents encouraged him to remain curious, independent, and free to discover his own interests from an early age.

He particularly enjoyed performing in front of an audience during the music school’s regular student auditions and end-of-year performances. He has loved Blues and Jazz for as long as he can remember, so while the conservatory environment was traditionally centered on classical repertoire, he naturally looked beyond those boundaries. He became known for bringing other styles into his performances, including ragtime and pieces such as Bohemian Rhapsody. In his own way, he enjoyed “dusting off the furniture” of the traditional environment and opening the door to the music he genuinely loved.

At 10, he gave his first hotel performance at Hotel RH Don Carlos.

At 12, he took the stage for the first time, performing The Maple Leaf Rag at the opening of the 10th International Jazz Festival of Peñíscola before an audience of approximately 1,000 people.

At 14, he attended a master class with pianist Marisa Blanes, focusing on piano technique.

He continued developing his musical identity through a jazz seminar organized by Blau Records, founded by Fernando Marco, the same organizer behind his festival debut.

From then until the age of 18, he performed regularly at hotels, bars, and restaurants, including a bar in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, the Parador de Benicarló, and Hotel RH Boutique Portocristo. These engagements took place during summer holidays and between school classes throughout the winter. Working and earning his own money from such a young age taught him the value of responsibility, professionalism, and independence, while giving him firsthand experience of the realities of working life.

At 15, he also had the opportunity to perform live with Ballet Lupe, providing piano accompaniment for a dance performance and gaining valuable early experience collaborating with artists from another discipline.

While attending high school, he also performed in a large-scale stage show organized by his father. The production featured glittering costumes, stage lighting, professional video recording, and a repertoire spanning rock and roll, popular hits, boogie, and other styles. These early performances helped shape the energetic stage presence and musical style that would later characterize his shows.

At 16, as he entered the final stage of high school, he decided to devote more time to his academic studies and took a break from the music school, while continuing to develop his musical skills privately. He began two years of private study in jazz and modern harmony with jazz-flamenco pianist Juan Cortés, further developing his understanding of jazz and expanding beyond his classical training.

At 18, he completed his formal, specialized language education at Saint Jean-Baptiste de La Salle Private School, having studied French, Spanish, Valencian (Catalan), English, Latin, and Ancient Greek. As part of the Spanish education system, he took the official examinations at the University of Castellón, earning his high school diploma in Humanities & Social Sciences, with a concentration in languages.

After completing high school, he began the remaining two years of his piano studies at the Castellón Conservatory, ultimately earning a Professional Degree in Piano.

At the same time, he began performing regularly at music venues and clubs in Valencia, Spain’s third-largest city, including Matisse Club, Radio City Valencia, and La Fábrica de Hielo. He also performed at the Institut Français during La Nuit des Idées 2020, further expanding his experience in live performance and cultural events.

During this same period, he attended Yamaha Music School, where he earned a Diploma in Jazz Piano and Modern Harmony through an intensive, advanced program based on Berklee College of Music materials. There, he also developed his ability to play with other musicians through jazz ensembles, learning to listen, communicate, improvise, and build music collectively.

At 21, he performed for the first time at a 5-star hotel with Hoteles Santos.

That same year, he decided to travel farther, build his career in luxury environments, and bring his music to audiences around the world.

This led him to board river cruises for the first time with Grand Circle Cruise Line, performing aboard River Aria and River Adagio on European rivers. During this period, he also began performing dedicated rock and roll and blues shows, developing his singing, expanding his repertoire, and broadening his abilities as a live performer.

At 22, he embarked on L’Austral for more than seven consecutive months of Antarctic cruises between Ushuaia and the ice. He loved performing in such a luxurious setting, from elegant piano bar sessions to his Rock & Roll and Blues show on the theater stage on every cruise. Lights, glittering costumes, hats, glittering ties, video recordings, piano and vocals — everything was naturally coming together to shape his artistic identity. International audiences, particularly American guests, embraced this unique approach to live entertainment, and this period marked the beginning of lasting connections with fans and friends, as well as the development of a signature style that would become increasingly recognizable in the years that followed. During these voyages, he also had the opportunity to perform for distinguished guests, including Nobel Prize–winning astrophysicist Andrea Ghez.

He even spent his birthday surrounded by the ice of the Antarctic, watching snow fall at midnight after performing an improvised private Rock & Roll show in the upper-deck library for an audience who had, by then, already become friends.

After those expedition cruises, he embarked on Le Bougainville for cruises throughout the Mediterranean, from Gibraltar to Jordan. He continued expanding his repertoire, developing new performance formats, and strengthening his improvisation skills, while remaining firmly connected to his own artistic identity.

On this ship, he also had the honor of being the pianist-singer for the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia during a private charter of more than a month throughout the Mediterranean. It was a truly unforgettable experience and a significant milestone in his international career.

His journey through river cruising then took him across Central and Eastern Europe, performing aboard ships such as Viking Beyla and nickoVISION. These long contracts taught him the discipline and consistency required to perform at a high level every night, often playing more than six hours a day. They also gave him invaluable experience connecting with audiences, reading a crowd, adapting his performances to different guests, and developing the stamina and versatility required of a professional live entertainer.

At 23, he continued expanding his international career from the Canary Islands to Corsica aboard La Belle des Océans, performing nightly for international audiences and bringing his music beyond the traditional lounge setting to outdoor decks for lively sail-away moments.

Most recently, he was the exclusive resident pianist-singer aboard Sea Cloud Spirit, performing throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean. As the sole artist on board, he broadened his entertainment offering to include DJ sets and interactive musical games, while further refining his weekly Rock & Roll and Blues concerts. He also had the opportunity to perform for distinguished guests, including Ewald Pfleger.

Throughout his cruise career, he performed nightly for international guests, moving naturally between elegant jazz, American standards, contemporary favorites, and audience requests. From intimate piano bars and elegant lounges to formal evenings, outdoor sail-away events, and full concert productions, each setting brought its own demands and opportunities. Exploring the music of artists ranging from Bill Withers to Tanya Tucker helped him discover new vocal ranges and grow into a professional singer. Above all, these years at sea taught him how to combine musicianship, versatility, stage presence, and genuine connection with an audience — qualities that remain at the heart of his work today.

Around this time, he traveled to Los Angeles for the first time, where his friend, actress Erin Matthews, kindly hosted him. He discovered a place where artistic freedom, open-mindedness, languages, and travel seemed to have no limits, confirming that he was on the right path.

His career and travels have taken him across 30 countries and 5 continents, including Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Jordan, Liechtenstein, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, the Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, the United States, and Uruguay.

Beyond these countries, his journeys have also taken him to Antarctica, South Georgia, Western Sahara, the Suez Canal, and the Corinth Canal.

Today, at 25, he has a strong educational background, with four diplomas, and more than a decade of professional performance experience across the music, hospitality, and cruise industries as a pianist, singer, showman, and DJ.

Now, he’s looking ahead — continuing to develop as an artist, expanding into new international markets, performing in new environments, and creating experiences that bring music and people together.

Influences & Inspirations

From the very beginning of his musical journey, Lucien has drawn deeply from the rich tradition of American music. His earliest and most defining influence was the Blues — a genre he was instinctively drawn to from the moment he began studying piano. Its emotional honesty, raw storytelling, and expressive harmonic language became a foundation of his playing, shaping both his touch and his sense of musical storytelling.

A pivotal figure in his development was Chuck Berry, whose guitar-driven energy and unmistakable groove left a lasting mark on Lucien’s approach to rhythm, phrasing, and performance. Berry’s iconic style showed him how to combine drive with elegance and how to make an instrument not simply accompany a song, but speak with attitude and personality. This influence remains audible in the confident swing and Rock & Roll energy that characterize many of Lucien’s arrangements.

As his artistry developed, Lucien expanded his musical universe into jazz, embracing its sophistication, harmonic depth, and improvisational freedom.

He developed a strong affinity for the classic American jazz tradition, incorporating its colors and vocabulary into his performances while maintaining a strong melodic focus. From jazz, he naturally moved toward R&B, finding inspiration in its soulful intensity, rhythmic energy, and vocal expressiveness. These influences contributed to the warm, engaging sound that defines his singing and piano phrasing today.

In the following years, Lucien’s musical path led him toward country music and the classic American songbook, further shaping his vocal identity. He was drawn to the storytelling tradition of country, its sincerity, and its direct emotional connection with audiences. The timeless melodies of American standards enriched his stylistic palette, helping him create performances that feel both nostalgic and contemporary.

Safety & Crew Readiness

As an experienced cruise-ship pianist-singer, I am familiar with the safety procedures and responsibilities associated with working aboard passenger vessels.

This is Lucien Donné’s personal performance setup, used when he provides his own equipment for the engagement.

The setup combines professional instruments, reliable live-performance equipment, and a flexible configuration designed for a wide range of environments — from luxury lounges and cruise ships to private events, hotels, resorts, and international venues.

The exact configuration may vary depending on the venue, performance format, and available technical resources. Typical configurations include the professional equipment showcased below.

STAGE GEAR SHOWCASE

A visual overview of the professional instruments and equipment Lucien uses on stage.

Yamaha Tyros 2 — Professional Arranger Keyboard

The Yamaha Tyros 2 is a professional arranger keyboard offering a broad selection of high-quality instrument voices and accompaniment styles.

Its extensive library of realistic rhythm patterns allows Lucien to create arrangements that combine solo keyboard performance with the feel of a full band or ensemble.

The instrument provides versatility across jazz, pop, Rock & Roll, Blues, Country, Latin, contemporary music, and ballads.

It remains an important component of Lucien’s personal performance setup for both intimate and large-scale venues.

BOSS RC-3 Loop Station — Live Performance Looper

The BOSS RC-3 Loop Station allows Lucien to record, overdub, and reproduce musical phrases in real time, creating layered arrangements during live performances.

Its compact design integrates easily with keyboards and vocals while providing additional rhythmic and musical possibilities.

The RC-3 is programmed with an extensive library of more than 90 rhythm styles derived from Lucien’s Yamaha Tyros 2 setup.

The collection covers:

Jazz & Swing
Ragtime · French Jazz · Jazz Club · Dixieland · Lounge Piano · Orchestra Swing

Pop & Rock
Power Rock · 8-Beat Modern · West Coast Pop · Brit Pop · Vintage Guitar Pop

Country, Blues & Gospel

Latin & World
Bossa Nova · Samba · Salsa · Merengue · Guajira · Tango

R&B & Dance
R&B · Hip Hop · Club House · Disco House · Zouk

Together, these rhythms provide a versatile foundation for Lucien’s live performances across multiple genres and audiences.

Shure Headset Microphone — Professional Vocal Solution

Lucien uses a professional Shure headset microphone when a hands-free vocal setup is required.

The headset provides clear, consistent vocal sound while allowing complete freedom of movement on stage — particularly useful during energetic performances, audience interaction, and shows combining piano, vocals, and movement.

Depending on the engagement, the setup may use either a wired or wireless configuration.
